This is the third in a series of reviews of HOM underwear that our fine friends at JustHom's underwear store sent me to review. The third pair -- the HOM H01 Coton Plus Maxi
-- is a more traditional style than the other HOM styles I've reviewed, and the pair I tried was in black.
These maxis, otherwise known in the underwear world as trunk briefs,
also come in "chine/acier" (which I call grey) and white.
The fabric for this style, according to the JustHOM site,
is 93% cotton and 7% elastane (also known as lycra), which is much more of a fabric mix that I'm used to. While my initial reaction to the Open Micro briefs and Plume Hips I previously reviewed was a little negative due to the feel of the fabric. these trunks were my style from the moment I opened the package.
Trying on the H01 Coton Plus Maxi
the first time was exactly what I expected from the styling and the fabric -- perfect! The cotton maxi is very soft and form-fitting, holding your package snug and wrapping your upper thighs well. The waistband on
this underwear is a plush cotton with "HOM" stylishly imprinted. These trunks are not as light as the Open Micro briefs or the Plume Hips, but you don't wear cotton underwear for that feel. Instead, this underwear feels solid, secure and well-structured. Other users have reported that they have had these trunks briefs for 3 years with no signs of fading, so they must be made of quality material.
After wearing these trunk briefs for an entire workday, my impression of the H01 Coton Plus Maxi was just as positive. As you may have read in other posts, I've found
that most trunk briefs just don't fit me well. While I love the look, it
seems that the leg material ends up scooting up to my crotch and just
collecting there, which can get uncomfortable. It's a thigh issue of
some sort, which has attributed to my having bigger thighs than most
guys, dating back to my soccer days. Most guys I talk to have no
problems with boxer briefs and trunk briefs in this way, so this
shouldn't be an issue for most. But my finding with the H01 Coton Plus Maxi was that there wasn't as much "scooting" or "clumping" of material as I expected, and even so, the cotton material is so soft that it wasn't as annoying with these trunk briefs as I've had with other styles.
My favorite element of the H01 Coton Plus Maxi was the unique HOM H01 horizontal opening. This opening is much like the top-loading Munsinger fly, but it's even better. This horizontal fly, curved downward, is a very soft opening with very little material to flap over. Honestly, when I first put on these trunks, I was a little concerned that if I got an erection, things would just come popping straight out the hole as my privates moved upward. This doesn't seem to be the case -- I found that this horizontal opening is perfect for easy, unencumbered access to what's underneath these briefs. I have found no other "fly system" on underwear that I love more than this HOM H01 horizontal opening simply because the access is utterly simple and sexy.
All in all, the H01 Coton Plus Maxi ranks an 8 on a scale of 10 for me. Except for my little trunk brief
problem I'm having recently, these trunks were a wonderful cotton underwear. The material is soft and plush, and the underwear itself is very masculine-feeling and sexy, especially with the horizontal fly opening. I have no discomfort in wearing these trunk briefs out and about to the locker room or the bedroom because they are well-designed and well-formed. While many shoppers turn to HOM for their more European stylings, this H01 Coton Plus Maxi is perfect for the man who likes HOM but wants a more traditional cotton cut.
And, note, that right now is the PERFECT time to purchase from JustHom, because they have consecutive promotions running. Until Monday, November 28, they are offering free shipping worldwide, no matter what size order. Their shower foam promotion is also ongoing until they run out of the shower foams, so if you order four or more underwear or swimwear products through their site, you will get a free shower foam with your order. Lastly, they have managed to get their hands on some stock that would typically not be available until the spring/summer season, so you can get some products earlier than normal.
