RIPS designs have been a part of my underwear repertoire for
quite some time and recently I had the chance to take a closer look at the new Performance
Line. RIPS has taken its best classic
designs and updated with one of the most comfortable & luxurious feeling
fabrics.
Tencel is a new innovation, which creates the ultimate in
comfort. RIPS.com shows that the fabric absorbs 130% more vapor than cotton and
has amazing moisture wicking capabilities. The site also speaks of its comfort for
those with sensitive skin and has eco-friendly production. With all that
wrapped into one fabric you get a garment that is super soft, stretchy but
retains it shape (it has a touch of Spandex), and is one of the most
comfortable pairs I have ever worn.
RIPS underwear comes in 3 different waistband styles. Drawstring, Microfiber Waistband, and Self-Fabric. The Athlete style that I am reviewing has the Self-Fabric, which is comprised of a 1/2 inch covered waistband. All of the stitching is smooth and clean, and the RIPS Performance Athlete has a sculptured pouch and a center rear seam. This pouch is a more free form than some other brands, but still provides boxer-brief like support. As for colors, they are still limited, coming in a medium blue and black. There are possibilities of more colors and patterns (like camo!) so keep your eyes peeled!
Do you ever get frustrated with boxer-briefs or trunk briefs that get “baggy butt” by the end of the day? I can say with confidence that “baggy butt” might be a thing of the past. The RIPS Athlete conforms to your body, creating a buttery smooth shape with pouch support. They looked just as great when I took them off that night, as they did when I put them on in the morning.
Overall, I think that RIPS makes a great product. I hope for more color diversity and some new styles. The RIPS Performance Athlete is a great everyday design, especially in the Performance Stretch of Tencel and Spandex.
