I went to my local pub last night for a big bowl of home-style soup and to watch the Olympics on the tube. (I needed to get out of the house bad)
As I went to the washroom to wash up before eating I passed the collection of local rags that are distributed for free in Toronto.
I noticed that this month's issue of "fab" (fabmagazine.com) had published their annual Underwear Issue. Of course I grabbed a copy to see what was going on.
I have to say, for an issue dedicated to underwear, I was pretty disappointed in the content or rather the lack thereof. I mean there has to be more going on in a multi-billion dollar industry to publish more than 3 short articles and 1 photo spread.
Mind you the artwork in the photo spread was pretty cool and I did enjoy the funky approach.
Anyway, when I sat down I was hopeful that I would find some stuff to be able to share with our readers and sadly other than some statistics (which I will have below) there was nothing there that has not already been covered here before.
Maybe we are ahead of the game?
There is one thing that was covered that is important to note and that was the "Tighty Whitey" Car Wash event.
Held to raise money for the "Toronto People With Aids Foundation". I found some pictures on Flickr and did contact the photographer because I wanted to share the photos here with you. Unfortunately, he did not reply.
This year they raised more than $8000 which is double, if I remember correctly, what was raised last year. So I will snap my undie-waistband to all those that took part in that event.
So on to the statistics that I found interesting and wanted to share with you...
- The average number of pairs of underwear bought by Americans annually is 7. (How do you compare to that?)
- The first pair of underwear briefs were sold on 19 January 1935.
- Only 60% of French men admit or claim to change their underwear daily. (How often do you change your underwear? Even when you are camping!)
- Italian men traditionally wear RED underwear on New Year's Eve.
A few local "brick and mortar" stores were highlighted and I will be sure to be heading over there, when the rain here finally stops, to check them out and let you know more about them.
