Recently I was given the rare opportunity to review four different jockstraps in a one of a kind side-by-side comparison. I wore each of the jocks for a full day in a variety of scenarios. They each were worn just as a normal undergarment and then were really put to the test when they were worn to the gym. Being an avid runner and weightlifter, I knew the true test of a jockstrap would be its performance during physical activities. After all was said and done I rated each jock based on its fit, style, quality and value. Then each of those scores were added up and averaged to see which jockstrap would emerge as the best jock in the bunch.
Let me say that while there can only be one clear winner here, they were all exceptional jocks and any guy would be thankful that he owned any of these. However there had to be a winner, which made my job very difficult.
4th Place: Dirty Fukker Jockstrap – When I first picked up this jockstrap from it’s packaging I was impressed by how soft the material was that covered the pouch area. The waistband was thinner reducing the potential amount of “underwear overhang” as I like to call it. When I put the jock on, I was happy with the overall feel of it. The pouch was comfortable and soft and the rear straps didn’t dig into my leg muscles at all. Throughout the day the leg straps shifted frequently as I moved around the office. The fit was beginning to show this jockstraps weakness. This was even more evident on the treadmill at the gym. The rear straps slid around into very uncomfortable crevasses and the pouch had loosened up throughout the day which diminished the amount of support I would have preferred. After seeing the price, I would have liked to see more functionality for the price paid ($19.95). At the end of the day it was a comfortable fashion jockstrap but didn’t translate well into the active realm.
Overall, I give the Dirty Fukker Jockstrap a total score of 7.25 based on the following criteria:
FIT -- 7 (out of 10)
STYLE -- 7 (out of 10)
QUALITY -- 8(out of 10)
VALUE -- 7 (out of 10)
3rd Place: C-IN2 Bamboo Collection Jockstrap - At first glance I knew this jockstrap was primarily made to be a fashion jock. It was red with gray accents which was rare to see in a locker room atmosphere.
The fabric was unique feeling, soft and felt very well made. Once I slid the jock on, I was even more impressed with the lightweight and soft pouch. It was a little cramped in the pouch but wasn’t uncomfortable. The waistband was slightly wider than the Dirty Fukker jock which gave it a more “athletic look” that a fashion jock still needs. All day long the jock stayed in place and retained its shape. After a few hours the close quarters in the pouch became more and more noticeable. Even though I respect the fact that the fabric was able to bounce back into shape, it would have been nice to have a little more “package space”. At the gym I was impressed with its performance. It stayed in place during a pretty rigorous leg routine but I was always aware of the lack of space up front. After seeing the price ($19.95) I was thinking I would like some of that money to go towards putting a little extra fabric up front to give us guys a little more space along with the comfort I know C-in2 is able to provide. Overall this was a well-made, durable and soft jockstrap that needs a little extra pouch room for the price.
Overall, I give the C-IN2 Bamboo Street Jock a total score of 8.75 based on the following criteria:
FIT -- 8 (out of 10)
STYLE -- 9 (out of 10)
QUALITY -- 10(out of 10)
VALUE -- 8 (out of 10)
2nd Place: C-IN2 Kinetic Jockstrap – From the minute I pulled this jockstrap from its packaging I knew I would like it. The pouch looked roomy and breathable, the waistband was the perfect width and it had a definite “athletic look” to its overall appearance.
Once I slid it on I knew my assumptions were correct. The pouch had the perfect amount of room allowing plenty of space without sacrificing the necessary support. The fabric was soft and actually felt like there was nothing there. It was the most natural feeling jockstrap in the bunch. During the day it felt like a soft, supportive brief and when I went to the gym and jumped on the Stepmill, it performed exactly as it should. The rear straps stayed in place, the pouch never lost any of its support or comfort and the breathability of the fabric was extremely impressive. The one thing I had to complain about was the one thing I loved about the jock when I put it on. When I was working out, it didn’t feel like I was wearing anything at all. While I appreciate that during the day wear, when I am working out I want to know that the jock I am wearing is supportive and still in place. It’s price is better ($17.50 or $14.99 on sale) but I would have liked to see the price drop a little more. It definitely corrects the issues I had with the Bamboo jockstrap and then some. Overall this is an attractive, roomy and athletic jockstrap that can almost make you feel like you are wearing nothing underneath your clothes at all.
Overall, I give the C-IN2 Kinetic Jock a total score of 9.5 based on the following criteria:
FIT -- 9 (out of 10)
STYLE -- 10 (out of 10)
QUALITY -- 10(out of 10)
VALUE -- 9 (out of 10)
1st Place: Bike Athletic Supporter – I got my first Bike jockstrap back when I played little league as a kid. Every jockstrap I bought after little league was Bike brand and they all have survived to this day. Bike athletic supporters are the icon of the jockstrap industry to which all jockstraps of this day and age are compared and for good reason.
They have unrivaled durability, comfort, performance and value. This particular jock I reviewed felt like it would last forever just as my other Bike jocks had. Triple stitching in areas gives you the confidence that no matter what you throw at this jock, it is going to keep on coming back for more. This jock had the widest waistband of them all but was still in the perfect range to keep the overhang non-existent for me. The pouch was roomy and no matter if I wore it for 24 hours straight (which I did) it never lost a centimeter of support. During the day it was a great pair of underwear and at the gym it was like training with a long lost friend. The rear straps moved as I moved without ever slipping into uncomfortable areas. The pouch kept things dry by allowing everything to breathe through the lightweight and supportive fabric. I felt like a man in this jockstrap. It was attractive enough that I felt it would be worn for a night out on the town and still be in working order to go to the gym the next morning and perform. At only $6.95 for one, I know that you cannot beat the value. When you spend that money you know you are getting a jock that will last as long as you want it to. Overall this is the perfect iconic jockstrap that EVERY man should have in his drawer.
Overall, I give the Bike Performance Cotton Athletic Supporter a total score of 10 based on the following criteria:
FIT -- 10 (out of 10)
STYLE -- 10 (out of 10)
QUALITY -- 10(out of 10)
VALUE -- 10 (out of 10)
