Introducing New Innovation in Men’s Fashion and Underwear – ICEBREAKER!
Last summer, my partner went back home to spend some time with his family. Of course while away he could not resist doing some shopping. Was I ever surprised with what he brought back for me. Wool underwear! But not just any wool, PURE New Zealand Merino wool.
I was in complete disbelief that this could be anything but uncomfortable. However, I will say that I am one of those fortunate people who does not find wool garments to be itchy. But I was not so sure about wool rubbing up against my privates.
Well for sure I had to try them on.
So first I tried the brief. Wow was I ever amazed. So soft. So light. So comfortable. Wow.
I also tried on the boxer with button fly. Now I will admit, I am not a fan at all of boxers, however, the cut and fit of these was perfect.
So lets go back to the brief again for a bit. Here is what Icebreaker says about their Beast Brief;
BEAST Premium Underwear - The pure merino garments in BEAST are warm and soft against your skin, yet styled to give you the support you need to be at your best all day. High performance, environmentally sound and very sexy, the Brief has a low rise, athletic cut that helps you make the most of what you've got.
- Closed contoured pouch
- Low rise, athletic cut
- 3.3cm striped elastic waistband
- “B” satin label at back right waistband
- Script element in coloured reflective heat transfer at upper left back hip
- Contrast stitch detail
- Icebreaker pip label
- Available colours; Bone/Royal, Jet/Flash, Stone/Salsa
I could not agree more with their description – these briefs are perfect. Here is even the coolest part. I have worn them on the hottest and muggiest days of summer and now recently on some pretty damn chilly days. Comfort has been the same across the board.
On to the Boxer with Button Fly; a garment that is, again, completely not something I would have ever picked for myself. Here is what Icebreaker says about this piece;
For men who prefer a more relaxed fit, whether they're wearing their boxers on a chairlift or in the boardroom. A contoured pouch gives excellent support, while an articulated side seam follows the contours of the body.
- Functioning contoured pouch with 3-button fly
- Relaxed fit
- Articulated side seam
- 3.3cm striped elastic WB
- “B” satin label at back right WB
- Script element in coloured reflective heat transfer at upper left back hip
- 7cm inseam
- Icebreaker pip label
- Available colours; Jet/Flash, Stone/Salsa
Again, I really have to stress that when I wore these boxers I felt completely comfortable. One of the biggest pluses I have to say about these, no bunching at the legs! This is my biggest pet peeve of wearing boxers and why I just stopped.
So now you are probably thinking to yourself, “how hard it is to take care of these garments?”
Well seriously, not hard at all – in fact super easy. Easier than some of the other underwear I have!
Icebreaker garments almost look after themselves as they don't hold moisture or odour. In fact, the known record for wearing an Icebreaker non-stop is 196 days in extreme conditions. Here are a few tips to get the best out of your Icebreaker.
Washing Instructions
- Warm or cool machine wash separately after 2/3 days with hard fabrics to remove loose fibres.
- Wash on normal cycle with like colours.
- Don't use fabric softener or bleach.
- Do not tumble dry - dry flat in shade or on clothes line.
- Don't iron prints.
- Your superfine natural fibres may crinkle after washing - but they'll return to shape when worn.
Mine have both been worn extensively and washed numerous times and still feel and look exactly like they did when I got them.
Icebreaker is not limited to just underwear for men, they offer a full clothing line and outerwear as well, for women too.
I strongly encourage you to browse Icebreaker.com and take a look at all they have to offer, then do a google search for retailers in your area who carry Icebreaker Garments.
I recently told a friend of mine, who happens to be a fire fighter and is constantly exposed to the ugly winter weather, about Icebreaker. He went out and got himself a few pieces and I am anxiously awaiting his feedback.
