Philips Develops Blood Pressure Sensing Briefs

Not that these industrial looking briefs would cause anyone's blood pressure to rise, but NewScientist.com last week reported on a new innovation by Philips: underwear that senses blood pressure.

Engineered as an alternative to a bulky blood pressure cuff for patients who might need their blood pressure taken frequently, these briefs have built-in sensors that measure a patient's "pulse wave velocity," which can be used to calculate blood pressure.

Electronics giant Philips has no reported plans to enter the apparel market nor do any Undies Drawer Sponsors yet carry these functional skivvies, but you never know.
